Last week was recess week at NTU. For most students this equals vacation week. Nonetheless, there are no lectures at the University during this week. Having a fixed schedule during the teaching weeks, this was the perfect time to take a short trip and, even though just for a few days, have some vacation.
Singapore is strategically placed in the middle of South East Asia and airlines are flying all around the place. After some thinking, we decided on a resort vacation in the small town, Maribago, situated on Mactan Island at the outskirts of Metro Cebu in the Philippines. We stayed for a short week at Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel, a kids friendly beachfront hotel with two nice swimming pools, a beach and a Boardwalk.
As always, we took the time to look around – Magellan Cross, the Lapu-Lapu Statue and Magellan Marker as well as the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu.
Fun fact:
Mactan Island was the spot where explorer Magellan entered into a battle with the locals on April 27, 1521. But since they had an issue with being colonized they fought back and Magellan were killed in battle with the ruler of Mactan, Lapu-Lapu, on this day.
